Keyboard Shortcuts

Fed up with using your mouse to do certain tasks when there's a perfectly good keyboard in front of you? Using keystroke short cuts can speed up you work as you don't have to move your hands away from the keyboard.

You might find the following short cuts useful. For text editing etc., highlight the text and then use the following keys (in general hold the first key down, then press the second - if there are three keys listed hold the first two down and press the third key). Note: Ignore the dash (-) which is only used as a separator between the key combinations and the description.

Formatting

Ctrl B - Bold
Ctrl I - Italic
Ctrl U - Underline

Editing

Ctrl X - Cut
Ctrl C - Copy
Ctrl V - Paste
Ctrl 1 - Single line spacing
Ctrl 2 - Double line spacing
Ctrl 5 - 1½ line spacing
Shift Enter - Line break
Ctrl Enter - Page break
Ctrl Shift Enter - Column break
Ctrl A - Select All

Document shortcuts

Ctrl N - New Document
Ctrl O - Open
Ctrl P - Print
Ctrl S - Save
Ctrl W - Close
Ctrl Z - Undo the last action
Ctrl Home - Move to start of the document
Ctrl End - Move to end of the document

General Windows shortcuts

Ctrl Esc - Start Menu
Ctrl Alt Del - End program that is not responding etc.
Alt Tab - Toggle between different windows / programs
Alt F4 - Close current window

Useful "F" key commands

F1 - Help
F3 - Find all files (in Windows Explorer)
F5 - Refresh window
F10 - Activate menu bar options
