DNS
Domain Name Service
DNS is the system which converts domain names and URLs which humans can understand into IP addresses which computers understand. For example, when you type www.google.com into your web browser, your computer first contacts a DNS server. The DNS server tells your computer the IP address corresponding to www.google.com (66.102.9.99). Your computer then contacts the computer found at that address and downloads the Google web page.
