Corrupt

A corrupt file is a file that has become damaged due to a bug in a programme that has used the file (often the operating system) or due to errors on the storage media (usually a hard drive, but files can also be corrupted on floppy disk and on scratched CDs and DVDs).

Programmes such as ScanDisk can often recover corrupt files.
